Beginner Canning Workshop (4 Hours)

 

Preserving with Purpose | Hands-On Class for Absolute Beginners

Learn the basics of safe, simple water-bath canning in a welcoming, step-by-step class. You’ll get real hands-on experience and leave with a jar you canned yourself.

What You’ll Learn

  •  The difference between water-bath vs. pressure canning
  • What foods are safe for water-bath canning (and why acidity matters)
  • How to prep jars, lids, and tools
  • Headspace, removing air bubbles, and proper sealing
  • Water-bath processing basics: timing, cooling, and storage
  • How to troubleshoot common issues (floating veggies, cloudy brine, weak seals)

What We’ll Can (Beginner-Friendly)

 

This workshop focuses on easy, high-success recipes that are ideal for beginners:

Pickled Vegetables (choose one):

  • Pickled Carrots
  • Pickled Cucumbers
  • Pickled Beets

(Optional demo depending on time: simple pickled veggie medley or hot peppers.)

Class Details

  • Length: 4 hours
  • Capacity: 10 participants max
  • Skill Level: Beginner (no experience needed)
  • Method: Water-bath canning only
